NCCT Pelvis is non-contrast computed tomography of the Pelvis. It is also known as CT Pelvis or CT Pelvis plain. The Pelvis region is an area between the abdomen and thigh.  This imaging method creates cross-sectional images of structures inside and around the pelvis region using an x-ray beam.  It evaluates the blood vessels, soft tissues, and internal organs in and nearby pelvis area such as the bladder, male and female reproductive organs, pelvis bone, small intestine, colon, and prostate to detect the anomalies.

Your doctor prescribes NCCT Pelvis to gather detailed information about the problems/ condition.

  • Causes of acute and chronic pelvis pain
  • Inflammation, Infection, tumor, abnormal growth of mass in the pelvis area.

The NCCT pelvis scan is used to help in the diagnosis of abdominal or pelvic pain. The scan can help in visualising internal organs for diseases in bowel, colon such as appendicitis, pyelonephritis or infected fluid collections known as abscesses.

  • Do not eat heavy food
  • Inform if you have allergy to any known item
  • Discuss about suspected or confirmed pregnancy so as to plan suitable diagnostic test
  • Wear comfortable clothes

The NCCT pelvis scan uses ionising radiation. These ionising radiations have potential to cause cancer by making alterations in your DNA makeup. The chances of developing cancer or other genetic related diseases stand very low.

There is no specific number to how many scans should be done. The number of scans depends on your disease status and its severity. Although  for the whole body, 1mSv per year is the recommended dose for the public to get exposed to radiation and 20mSv per year as occupational exposure.

There are no precautions or restrictions to be taken after the procedure. You can drink or eat anything as usual. Other specific instructions about your medicine routine will be guided by your doctor.

Antioxidant rich food can help increase the body’s ability to get rid of radiations.  You can eat vitamin E and vitamin C rich food before and after the test  to reduce the radiation from your body.

Radiations don't stay in your system. If you are having radiation therapy, it might take a little longer (3-6weeks) for the radiation to leave your system. These radiations keep getting weaker with time.
