The acute level of exposure has specific symptoms. On the other hand, the severe level of exposure doesn’t have any specific symptoms as it affects the lungs, kidneys, and nervous system.

Why is Mercury, Random Urine done?

When a patient has signs of acute exposure to mercury such as a burning sensation in the mouth, 

Cough, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, burning sensation in lungs, difficulty urinating, decreased flow of urine, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramp, fever, dizziness and Headache etc.

Even it is suggested to the individual with no symptoms but exposed to mercury.

Evaluating the presence of high levels of mercury.

Preparation

>>Avoid Predatory fish (Swordfish, Tuna, and Shark) 72 hours before the test

>>In the case of gadolinium or Iodine containing contrast media, wait for at least 96 hours to give a sample.
