What is the KARYOTYPING Test?

Chromosome analysis, also known as karyotyping, is used to figure out what caused the abnormalities in the foetus (cognitive disabilities and slowed growth), multiple miscarriages, infertility, and cancer in the foetus. Chromosomes are thread-like structures that make up each person's DNA and genetic makeup. It is 23 pairs of chromosomes that make up 46 chromosomes. A problem with your DNA's number, size, or shape can indicate a genetic ailment.

If your baby has signs of a genetic disorder, your doctor might suggest this test. If you've had trouble getting pregnant or have had many miscarriages, your doctor might recommend this test. As a side note, this test may also be helpful if you have been diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma, or a specific type of anaemia.

You'll have blood extracted from an arm vein.

• Samples must be taken from a chromosome and FISH analysis requisition form that has been filled out completely.
