Questions that you could ask your doctor

Will I need any testing, and if so, which tests and how often?

What are the risks, benefits, and costs of these tests?

What symptoms and signs should I report to you right away?

This test is considered to diagnose any heart conditions such as the coronary artery disease (CAD). The results thus obtained, would allow the doctors to further see the following:

  • In there is any significant blockage of your coronary artery by performing the stress (perfusion) test
  • Degree of your heart damage, if only there is any, after your heart attack.

Positron emission tomography (PET) is considered to be the medical imaging procedure that would provide you with the unique information on how the organ or the system in a person’s body is working. And the PET scans that mainly used to assess your cancers, the neurological (brain) diseases and if any cardiovascular (heart-related) disease.

The patients who have remained clinically equivocal after the multidisciplinary review of your post-treatment imaging and your clinical exam findings were ordered repeat PET/CT, typically after 1–4 months following patient's initial post-treatment imaging.

The Repeat PET/CT imaging was also assessed in same way as the initial post-treatment imaging.

Preparation for PET Scan Procedure

You would be required to follow a limited carbohydrate intake diet for previous 24 hours before date of the appointment.

Furthermore, you are requested to not eat or even drink anything, except for water, for at least 6 hours before your exam.

However, as mentioned, you can consume/drink water, also as much water as it would turn out to be helpful, until your arrival.

After PET scan

You can eat and also drink normally. Radiation exposure by radioactive tracer is considered to be very small. Drinking plenty of the fluids after the scan would help you to flush your radiotracer out of the system.

The major drawback to the standard PET would be that images obtained will be of substantially lower resolution in comparison to CT and MRI, while PET is considered generally poor at delineating any anatomic detail.

This test would be ordered by a cardiologist to diagnose any heart problems and this would further show areas in which there would be poor blood flow to your heart.

The Several PET scans might also be taken and considered over time to further determine how well you would be able to respond to your treatment for any heart disease.

Drinking water is encouraged to ensure hydration for best test results. Continue to take your medications as it has been prescribed.
