A PET-CT scan is a medical imaging test that uses a radioactive tracer to detect changes in metabolism and blood flow in the body. Here are some general do's and don'ts to keep in mind before and during a PET-CT scan:

Do’s:

  • Follow any instructions provided by your doctor or healthcare provider regarding preparation for the scan. This may include fasting before the procedure or avoiding certain medications.
  • Inform your healthcare provider of any allergies you may have, particularly to contrast agents used in medical imaging tests.
  • Stay calm and relaxed during the pet scan procedure. The technician or doctor performing the scan will guide you through the process.
  • Inform the healthcare provider if you experience any discomfort or unusual symptoms during the scan.

Don'ts:

  • Don’t eat or drink anything, except for water, for a few hours before the scan. Because food and drink can affect the results.
  • Don’t smoke or use any tobacco products for several hours before the scan, as this can also affect the results.
  • Don’t wear any jewelry or clothing that contains metal, as this can interfere with the imaging equipment.
  • Don’t move or fidget during the scan, as this can blur the images produced.
