Whole Body CT Angiography Test

Whole Body CT Angiography Test

Whole Body CT Angiography is an imaging scan used to examine the functioning of the blood vessels and arteries throughout the body. It depicts all vascular regions of the body in a single, quick procedure. This scan detects blood vessel problems such as narrowing and fat deposition in the arteries. You will be injected with contrast media to obtain cross-sectional images of the vessels during the Whole-body CT Angiography procedure.

This scan allows doctors to look for blockages, clots, aneurysms, congenital cardiovascular abnormalities, disorganised blood vessels, tumours, vessel ruptures, or injury in the blood vessels.

When doctors suspect severe vascular disorders/diseases that cause abnormalities in various parts of the body, whole body CT Angiography is recommended. This scan includes the blood vessels and aorta, the renal arteries, the carotid arteries, the peripheral arteries, the visceral arteries, the subclavian arteries, and the transplanted arteries.

The doctor orders this scan to evaluate the injury, physical trauma to the blood vessels, aneurysm, blood vessel blockages, plaque deposition, blood clot formation, the presence of any abnormal blood vessels, and congenital circulatory system abnormalities. It is also used to assess the efficacy of treatments for blockages and tumour blood supply.

You'll be given numbing medication before a technician inserts an IV into your hand or arm. A dye (contrast) is injected into this IV. The dye improves the visibility of blood vessels on CT images. In addition, sticky patches called electrodes will be placed on your chest to record your heart rate.

In the case of pregnancy, Whole Body CT Angiography is not performed. So, if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant, please notify your doctor before the scan.
