Transvaginal ultrasound (TVS scan) Test

Transvaginal ultrasound examines a woman's uterus, ovaries, tubes, cervix, and pelvic area.

Transvaginal refers to crossing or passing through the vagina. During the test, the ultrasound probe will be inserted into the vagina.

You will be lying on your back on a table, knees bent. Stirrups can be used to keep your feet in place.

A probe will be inserted into the vagina by the ultrasound technician or doctor. It may be slightly uncomfortable, but it will not harm you. A condom and gel are wrapped around the probe.

1. The probe sends out sound waves and records their reflections off body structures. An image of the body part is created by the ultrasound machine.
