CT Scan Shoulder Test

CT Scan Shoulder Test

A shoulder computed tomography scan (CT) uses specialised X-ray cameras to create cross-sectional images of the shoulder. This scan allows doctors to see the bones and soft tissues in the shoulder and detect any abnormalities. The CT scan may also aid in the detection of tumours and blood clots.

A CT scan with or without contrast dye can be performed. The contrast material assists your doctor in analysing vital vessels and structures.

A shoulder CT scan may be used by your doctor to:

  • locate blood clots
  • locate masses or tumours
  • detect infections
  • identify muscle, tendon, or ligament tears
  • Identify joint inflammation; diagnose injuries caused by trauma, such as a dislocation or fracture
  • prepare for surgery
  • decide on a treatment plan for your injury

Because the test is non-invasive, preparing for a CT scan takes little effort on your part.

Because you will be required to lie down on a table, you should dress comfortably. You will also be told to take off any jewellery or other metallic items from your body.

A CT scan is performed in a hospital's radiology department or a diagnostic procedure clinic. A CT technician will have you lie down on a bench after you have removed your jewellery and are dressed in a hospital gown.

During the test, your technician may instruct you to lie in a specific position. They may use pillows or straps to keep you in the proper position long enough to capture a good image. You may also need to hold your breath during brief individual scans to avoid image blurring.

A shoulder CT scan usually takes a day to process the results. Depending on the results of your scan, your doctor will schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss the results and advise you on how to proceed.

A CT (computed tomography) scan shoulder Test is typically performed in a hospital's radiology department or an outpatient imaging facility. So, for the best services and reliable results, schedule your test at Ganesh Diagnostic in Yamuna Vihar.
