What is an X-ray Wrist (lateral view) Test?

The wrist X-ray shows soft tissues, forearm bones, and eight wrist bones.

Why is it done? 

A wrist X-ray can show discomfort, edema, or joint abnormalities. Broken bones and dislocated joints can be seen. An X-ray can show if a damaged bone is aligned and has healed appropriately.

X-rays help surgeons plan and monitor the surgery. It can detect bone cysts, infections, cancers, and other disorders. A wrist X-ray may be done as part of a bone age study to diagnose growth problems.

• Wear loose-fitting clothing. No preparation is needed.
