What is an X-ray Temporomandibular Joints Test?

An X-ray of the temporomandibular joints is used to see the joint and the surrounding skin and muscles. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects the mandible (jaw bone) and the skull.

Why is it done? 

• To diagnose any suspected temporomandibular (TM) joint damage or fracture,

• To identify suspected jaw dislocations.

• To identify the cause of temporomandibular disorders, which may be caused by issues with the TM joint's muscles or the joint itself.

What is the procedure for the Temporomandibular Joints (TMJ) Radiograph Test?

The X-Ray technician will explain. 

How does one prepare for the test? 

• Wear loose-fitting clothing. No preparation is needed.
• If you are pregnant, notify your technician, as radiation may harm the baby.

After Care: 

No care is required.
