Treadmill stress testing is a form of heart stress testing that uses exercise with electrocardiography (ECG) and blood pressure monitoring. This form of stress testing is usually performed with exercise like treadmill or bicycle. PROCEDURE OF TMT TEST?
Before Test
Inform your doctor, About your medical history, symptoms of chest pain arthritis and diabetes. Your doctor may need to examine your blood glucose levels while you exercise and specific instructions are given if needed.
Refrain yourself from eating and drinking caffeinated beverages and smoking 3 hours before test.
Doctor will instruct about medicine you have to take or not.
DURING TEST
TMT test is performed at diagnostic centre, supervised by a trained healthcare provider. Electrodes are attached to your chests and arms and electrodes are attached to ECG machine. Then patient needs to stroll on bicycle or Treadmill. The test concludes after you have maintained your goal heart rate for some time sufficient to collect data on heart function, which is usually 10 to 15 minutes. Your goal heart rate is higher than at rest, which is determined by your age and exercise level.
AFTER TEST
Doctor will advice you to stop or you can ask to terminate test if you have any difficulty.
Further doctor will evaluate your blood pressure, heart rate and ECG until they turn normal.
This procedure will take 15-20 minutes.
Report will be given to you shortly after completing the procedure and you can go home once your heart rate is stable.
