X-RAY OF BOTH OPTIC FORAMEN PROCEDURE

To get a clear orbits (postero-anterior) image of the skull and demonstrate pathology such as skull fractures (orbits) with medial and lateral displacement. Mandible fractures are clearly seen in postero- anterior view. This view is basically used to do a reduction of the equivalent dose of the lens of the eye in pediatrics.

Why are X-RAY BOTH OPTIC FORAMEN Used?

This view is useful in evaluating:

  • Orbital foramen
  • Orbital wall
  • Internal auditory meatus
  • Skull fracture
  • Paget disease
  • Neoplastic change
  • Frontal bone
  • Ethmoid and frontal sinus
  • Structure seen in dental region
  • Mastoid sinus
  • Sphenoid's bigger and smaller wings

Patient preparation

  • Remove metallic things like Jewellery, Hair Clips, Watches, Rings, etc. from the scanning part of the body, so avoid the chance of any kind of bright or blank spot on the diagnostic film.
  • Inform the healthcare provider that you are pregnant.

Procedure for X-RAY BOTH OPTIC FORAMEN

Part positioning

  • The patient's nose and forehead are placed on the IR while they are positioned in front of a vertical detector.
  • The orbito-meatal line intersects the IR at a straight angle.
  • The forehead and nose are both touching the detector
  • A petrous ridge is below orbits
