X-RAY LATERAL CEPHALOGRAM

Cephalography is a method to see how the face and skull are placed together. The images from a cephalogram are used to see if a child is growing at an average rate, if their teeth are aligned with their jaw structure, and if their head and forehead are growing at the same rate as their other facial bones and jaw.

INDICATION

  • This view is useful in assessing:
  • Dental disorders
  • Jaw disorders
  • Bone disorders
  • Soft tissue disorders
  • Interaction between teeth
  • The skull

PATIENT PREPARATION

  • Remove all kinds of an object containing metal, such as necklaces, earrings, jewellery, hair pins, wrist-watch, rings, etc. from the part of the body being scanned.
  • Inform the technologist/ doctor before the procedure, in the case of a pregnancy.
  • Remove dentures and everything from hair such as hair grips, clips, etc.

The procedure of X-RAY LATERAL CEPHALOGRAM

  • Patient is sitting or standing side by side with the cassette.
  • Because the central ray is horizontal, the intra-pupillary lines are parallel to the IR or cassette.
  • Two clips that hold the patient are attached to the bilateral external auditory meati and one is attached through the nasion.
  • For the patient to stand in a genuine lateral position.
