Testicular Ultrasound Procedure

A testicular ultrasound is a diagnostic procedure that produces images of the testicles and the scrotum's surrounding tissues. It is also referred to as a scrotal ultrasound or a testicular sonogram.

 Why is Testicular Ultrasound Done?

  • The main imaging procedure for seeing and identifying anomalies in the testicles is a testicular ultrasound.
  • A physician might advise a testicular ultrasound to ascertain the results of scrotal trauma
  • Examine any lump in your scrotum or testicles to determine whether it is solid.
  • Testicular torsion
  • Determine the source of your testicles' pain or swelling etc.

Precautions

  • A testicular ultrasound often doesn't require any additional preparation.
  • Before the exam, there is no need to fast, adjust your food, or keep your bladder full.

Procedure

  • You might have to put on a hospital gown.
  • Your legs will be spread out while you lay on your back. Your scrotum may be raised by the ultrasound technologist by placing a cloth underneath it. To elevate your scrotum, they could tape large strips over your thighs and under it.
  • Your testicles will be covered in a warm, water-based gel by the technician. The transducer will be able to glide over your body thanks to this gel. Additionally, it aids in the transmission of sound waves.
  • The technician will back and forth-glide the transducer around your scrotum.
  • The technician will apply several angles to put the transducer against your body.

After Care

  • After the process, the technician will wipe the gel off your body.
  • After your testicular ultrasound, you can get back to your regular routine of eating and exercising. There is no need for recovery time.
