Mammograms are used as a: -
SCREENING TOOL to diagnose early breast cancer in women who don’t have any symptoms.
DIAGNOSTIC TOOL to diagnose breast disease in women experiencing symptoms like swelling, lump, pain, skin dimpling or nipple discharge.
Firstly, you need to inform everything about your breast to your doctor.
Best time for mammogram is one week following your menstrual period.
Must inform your doctor if there is any possibility of pregnancy or you are currently breast feeding.
On the day of scheduled examination do not wear talcum powder, deodorant or lotion under your arms, it may interrupt with reports. They may appear on mammogram as calcium spots.
Note- Based on your medical condition, your health care provider may request other specific preparation.
Your provider will give you all instructions prior to mammogram.
You will stand Infront of machine. Technologist will place your breast on a plate and another plate will press firmly. The x ray will be taken and capture multiple images from different angles. Radiologist will study the images and reports will be given to you shortly.
