What is the HLA B-27 Test?

An HLA B-27 blood test looks for a protein called Human leukocyte antigen B-27, which is on the surface of white blood cells. This protein is called HLA B-27, and the test looks for it. HLA B-27 may be a sign of an autoimmune disease, where the body's guarding cells (WBC) attack their cells.

People with HLA B-27 are more likely to get autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and reactive arthritis.
