CT Lower Limb Angiography Test

CT (Computerized Tomography) Angiography uses an iodine-rich contrast material injection and CT scanning to diagnose blood vessel problems such as aneurysms (weakening of the artery wall resulting in a bulge) and blockages in the lower extremities or lower limbs. It is carried out when there is a suspicion of insufficient blood flow to the legs, as indicated by pain while walking. It is also used when symptoms such as cramps and excessive fatigue in the legs and hips are observed while climbing stairs or walking. To detect blood vessels, a CT scan employs a large number of X-ray beams and electronic X-ray detectors.

The blood vessels appear bright white in the images after the contrast is injected into the patient's body via a catheter. Physicians use the test to diagnose blockages, aneurysms, disorganised blood vessels, and blood vessel injuries.

The images are forwarded to a radiologist for analysis. Abnormal test results suggest: Disease of the Peripheral Arteries (Hardening of arteries in the pelvis or legs) Clots and blockages in the blood vessel damage Aneurysms Vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels) (inflammation of blood vessels) It is critical to perform the scan because leaving problems unattended causes gangrene, which is the death of body tissues due to a lack of blood supply. As a result, amputation may be required.

A local anaesthetic and sedative may be administered prior to the procedure to numb pain and keep you relaxed. You might have to wear a gown. The nurse will insert an IV (intravenous) catheter into your hand to inject the contrast material during the procedure. You'll be seated on the examination table. Pillows and straps may be used to secure you. An automatic injection pump connected to the IV catheter will continuously inject the contrast into your body. During the procedure, you must remain motionless. The catheter will be removed after the procedure, and the punctured site will be bandaged. The machine will make whirring noises throughout the procedure.

Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing for the scan. Metal objects, such as piercings, glasses, dental fillings, hearing aids, and pins, must be left outside. You cannot eat or drink anything for a few hours before the scan. Before receiving the contrast, you must notify your doctor of any allergies. To avoid negative consequences, all medical conditions must be disclosed in advance. Also, let them know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The procedure is painless and quick. this procedure is generally well-tolerated, with most patients experiencing either mild pain or no pain during the procedure. There were no patients who experienced excruciating pain.
