HRCT (High Resolution Computed Tomography) is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses X-Rays to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the body. HRCT scans are commonly used to evaluate the lungs and are particularly useful for detecting and characterizing lung diseases, such as interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, and pulmonary embolism.

Unlike a standard CT scan, which provides detailed images of body’s internal structures, an HRCT scan uses a higher level of radiation and specialized techniques to capture more detailed images of the lung tissue. The images produced by an HRCT scan are very detailed, allowing doctors to see even small abnormalities that may not be visible on a standard chest X-ray.

HRCT scans are typically performed in a hospital or an imaging center and are usually painless and non-invasive. The procedure typically takes only a few minutes to complete, and patients can generally return to their normal activities immediately afterward. However, as with any medical procedure involving radiation, there is a small risk of side effects, and patients should discuss the potential risks and benefits of an HRCT scan with their doctor before undergoing the procedure.
