What is TVS color doppler?

Transvaginal sonography or TVS color Doppler ultrasound is a type of ultrasound imaging frequently used for the identification and evaluation of various pathological conditions of female pelvic organs or reproductive system including uterus, cervix, ovary and fallopian tubes.

It is a faster, non-invasive and usually painless technique which provides a more elaborated and detailed visualization of pelvic organs as compared to transabdominal ultrasonography. It provides details about blood flow such as speed and direction in real time to female reproductive organs.

The main difference between Transabdominal ultrasound and a TVS scan is the positioning of probe/transducer. In transabdominal ultrasonography the probe/transducer is kept on the abdominal surface where as in TVS scan the transducer is kept inside your vagina.

Why do I need a TVS color doppler scan?

TVS color Doppler scan is based on the principle of “Doppler effect” and uses radio waves and a computer to delineate the details of blood flow/supply to pelvic organs. Your Obstetrician and Gynecologist may order a TVS color Doppler scan for you in the following conditions:

These sound waves are reflected by the moving blood cells such RBCs and are recorded by the ultrasound machine and converted into images or graphs of different colors depicting parameters such as direction, speed of blood flow and flow pattern in real time. These images will be interpretated to evaluate your condition.

6) At the end of procedure, tissue paper will be provided to clean the gel/lubricant .

7) You will be allowed to leave once the imaging is over.
