What is the procedure for Ultrasound?

The procedure of ultrasound is performed in various stages from the start till the end. These steps include:

  1. Ultrasound Preparation: Before going for the ultrasound, a patient needs to avoid food and drinks for 8 to 12 hours during the abdominal ultrasound. In other ultrasounds, the patient may not need to take fast.
  2. Application of the Gel for Ultrasound: Gel is applied to the body of a patient for the smooth movement of the probe over the skin. The Gel also prevents air from getting in between the skin, which could block the sound waves and affect the results.
  3. Movement of probe or transducer: The probe or transducer is moved over the skin for scanning of the area. This transducer sends high-frequency sound waves into the skin. The waves bounce back after hitting the objects in the body.
  4. Creating Images from the ultrasound procedure: The Transducer attached to the scanner converts the sound waves into electrical signals. The scanner uses the speed and time of the echoes to generate images of the organs on the screen.
  5. Removing of ultrasound gel: After the completion of the procedure, the ultrasound gel is wiped off the skin of the body.
