What Is the Procedure of Stress Echo?

Pre Procedure:

  • No specific preparation is needed before the procedure.

  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol for 24 hrs before the test

During Procedure: 

A technician attaches electrodes (small patches) to patients’ chest. Female technicians apply patches to female patients. These electrodes are attached to EKG (Electrocardiograph) monitor that track the heart rate. Also  your blood pressure is monitored during the procedure. Initially a sonographer record EKG and echocardiogram with the help of transducer (ultrasonic device) in different position on your chest. After that patient is asked to do exercise on treadmill, and the intensity of exercise increased slowly until the symptoms appear. The actual time is 10-15 minutes. 

When patient reach at target heart rate. Your provider repeats the echocardiogram procedure. You may also feel slightly uneasy when you get off the treadmill. The test should take about an hour.

Post Procedure

  • Post-procedure, patient may proceed for daily routine as their heart rate and blood pressure return to normal.
  • Reports will be issued within 30 minutes post-procedure.
