What is Mammography?
The Mammography is known to be a specialized medical imaging that would allow low-dose of an x-ray system to evaluate your medical condition of your breasts, in case of any underlying pathology.
The mammography exam, also called as a mammogram, aids in early detection and diagnosis of the breast diseases in women.
It exposes you to small dose of the ionizing radiation so as to further produce pictures of the breasts in the body.

How is the procedure performed?
The Mammography is seen to be performed on an outpatient basis.
Before the Test
Some preparation is generally required before the scan.
A. How to prepare for the test
To not wear deodorant, the talcum powder or a lotion under the arms or on the breasts on day of your exam, to prevent any interference.
Make sure you describe the breast symptoms or the problems to technologist performing your exam.
Bring all your previous reports and any mammogram if done before ( to enable comparison of reports).
B. During the Test
During the mammography, a specially qualified radiologist technologist would position the breast in a mammography unit.
Your breast would be placed on the specific platform and also compressed with a particular clear plastic paddle.
Then, the paddles would gradually compress the breasts, to evaluate the following:
To even out breast thickness so that your breast tissue is visualized.
Spread out your tissue to prevent any small abnormalities to be hidden by any overlap of tissue
Allow use of the lower x-ray dose when only a thinner amount of the breast tissue would be imaged.
Breast should remain still so as to minimize any blurring of image caused by the motion.
C. After the test
After the scanning is complete, the respective radiologist would examine the images to understand whether any more of them are required ahead. Once the radiologist is satisfied, the patient could go back home.
Also, patients are required to take appointment with their respective doctor to discuss the results for future treatment planning.
