A CT carotid angiogram performed in an individual with carotid artery disease. Carotid artery is blood vessel which carries blood from your heart to your brain and head. The arteries become narrowed or blocked due to atherosclerosis.
It is used to detect the carotid artery disease and abnormality in the surrounding structures. Also used during surgery to look at blood vessels while they are being repaired and to monitor the ongoing treatment.
To perform carotid angiography, radiologist will insert a thin, flexible tube into your blood vessel through your groin area or arm. Inject a contrasting agent that makes your arteries visible and CT scan is performed.
After the scan is complete, a radiologist will evaluate your images and detect the findings.
